Getting Started in Ultimate Mining Tycoon
From spawn to your first processed ore sale — everything a day-one player needs.
Ultimate Mining Tycoon drops you onto a personal plot beside a shared 8-layer mine. Your job is simple to learn and hard to master: dig ores, haul them home, process them in machines you build, and sell the output for cash. This guide walks through the first 30–60 minutes so you finish the tutorial, earn steady income, and avoid purchases that slow your first prestige.
Developers madattak and Rolijok (Innovation Inc.) designed the early game as a hands-on lesson. Follow prompts, but use this page when the UI moves too fast.

Complete the tutorial sequence
The tutorial teaches the full core loop:
- Enter The Mine — Walk from your plot to the mine entrance. The surface layer holds weak ores like Tin and Copper.
- Mine with your Rusty Pickaxe — Approach stone blocks and mine until ores drop. Pick them up; they fill your starter backpack.
- Return to your plot — Walk back or use the free Quadbike once the vehicle step unlocks.
- Unload at the Ore Unloader — Interact with the unloader to transfer ores into your factory input.
- Watch machines process — Starter belts feed a basic processor that converts raw ore into sellable goods.
- Collect cash — Sell points convert output into money displayed on your HUD.
Skipping tutorial steps can leave your unloader misaligned. If belts jam, delete stray connector pieces and rebuild a straight path — see Factory Layout for principles.
Your starter equipment
| Item | Cost | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Rusty Pickaxe | Free | Mines surface ores; low strength |
| Starter backpack | Free | Small inventory before upgrades |
| Quadbike | Free | 8-slot hauler to the mine |
| Ore Unloader | Tutorial | Bridges vehicle inventory → factory |
Visit Generico Mining Gear near the mine for upgrades. Happy Pickaxe Man sells pickaxes; Backpack Man sells carry capacity.
First purchases (priority order)
Early cash trickles in slowly. Spend wisely:
- Copper Pickaxe (~$50) — First meaningful strength jump; mine deeper ores faster.
- Backpack upgrade — Fewer return trips mean more ore per minute.
- Extra output belt / unloader size ($1,000) — Tutorial mentions this upgrade; it reduces factory stalls when you haul larger loads.
- Cargo Quadbike ($1,000) — Doubles vehicle capacity to 16 slots before you afford trucks.
Avoid expensive machines until you understand sell values. Raw ore sales work early; processing multipliers matter more mid-game — covered in Early Game Money.
Understand your plot and build mode
Press the build mode control (see Controls for your platform) to place and move machines. Every part adds to complexity; the cap is 4,000. Starter layouts fit easily, but plan ahead:
- Keep machines in straight lines from unloader to sell point.
- Leave space for wider belts when you add furnaces and stampers.
- Do not spiral conveyors around unnecessarily — jams cost more than they save.
First mine depth goals
The mine organizes ores by geological layer. Early targets:
| Layer | Depth | Ores to notice |
|---|---|---|
| Surface | 0–50m | Tin, Copper, Iron |
| Shallow | 50–200m | Silver, Gold replacements |
| Bedrock | 200–800m | Titanium, stronger stones |
Full tables live in Mine Layers and Ores. Upgrade pickaxes when blocks show strength you cannot break.
Vehicles and hauling basics
Once the tutorial grants the Vehicle Spawner, hold interact at the sign to spawn your Quadbike. Drive into the mine, park near ores, load inventory, return, unload. One vehicle active at a time. Deeper guides: Vehicle Logistics.
Multiplayer and persistence
Servers support cooperative mining. Ores in backpacks, vehicles, and unloaders save when you leave — retrieve stranded inventory at the Ore Recovery Centre if something glitches. Minerals should clear on prestige; if they persist, rejoin — a known fix in recent patches.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What should I do immediately after spawning?
Follow the tutorial: mine surface ores, return to your plot, unload at the Ore Unloader, and let the starter machines sell goods for cash.
When should I upgrade my pickaxe?
Upgrade to the Copper Pickaxe as soon as you can afford it (~$50). If blocks show a strength requirement above your pickaxe, it is time for the next tier.
Do I need a better vehicle early?
The free Quadbike works until ~$5K. Then buy the Cargo Quadbike ($1,000) or save for the Minidumper ($5,000) for 32-slot hauls.
Can I skip the tutorial?
Not recommended. It places essential machines and teaches unloading. Skipping often leaves new players without a working sell chain.
Are there codes for starter cash?
No. Ultimate Mining Tycoon has no promo code system. Progress comes from mining and factory sales.
How long until I can prestige?
Prestige unlocks at $20M cash. Most players reach it over several sessions. See the Prestige and Medals guide for timing your first reset.
